Not to get too overdramatic, but Michelle and I just had pretty much the best weekend ever…except perhaps when we got married (and the kids weren’t born on weekends). We took the funds from a Christmas gift/check and got a little tiny cabin in a state park in the Georgia mountains. My parents stayed home with the kids, and it was so nice to not have to worry one bit about them.
the only agenda we had was to just spend a lot of time together. So we built a fire in the fireplace of our little one-room house, drank good drinks, ate good food (prepared beforehand – even better!), read good books, played good music, and things like that. Saturday was a nice day so we took a hike around the little lake and ate outside together. It was so good to talk and reflect on how good God is to us and to praise His name together. With all the busyness of life (even good busyness) it’s been harder to have quality times together, so this is just what we needed.
We were happy to come home refreshed and excited to see the kids again, and my mom and the kids had made me a birthday cake too. Yes, I’d have to say it was the best birthday weekend ever.
