Michelle is away for the weekend with some friends on a well-deserved retreat. so it’s just me and the kids, which has so far gone fine. we enjoyed a dinner out at mojo and they had a good time playing around the house together. Caleb was super cute leading Alice around the house by the hand. he was also lecturing Roxie (the new dog) about something she did wrong. it’s so funny to see him take the same tone and words we use when we’re trying to discipline him, but it’s also comforting to know that he’s at least getting it on some level.
tonight he stole a crayon from Alice, which she started crying over. I didnt actually see him take it, but I saw her with it moments before, and then she was crying and he had it. so I asked him if he took it from her, and he said no in a very guilty-sounding voice. I asked her if he took it, and she said yes. I gave him a bunch more chances to fess-up (too many, probably), but he used the same guilt-ridden “no” every time. so he got a brief lecture on lying and the consequences thereof, which he then got to experience. it was only then that he said yes, he took it. of course I’m not 100% certain that he really did, so I’d feel terrible if he didnt, but all signs pointed that way. I want him to learn that sin is bad, and covering it up is just as bad, if not worse. I think he might be learning, but we’ll see.
so I was cracking up when he saw the dog chewing yet another kid toy (we dont really mind, but sometimes he takes exception), and took it upon himself to lecture her. “Roxie! No! Come here, I need to tell you something…” he’s firm but kind, which is pretty funny and cool to see.
anyway, we’ll see how the next couple days go. Alice has a bunch of molars coming in, so we’ll likely get out of the house as much as possible. it’s a little lonely this time of day, but I’m certainly glad we can both take some time away for a little while.
