for the first time in recent or distant memory, I’ve started working out. I figured I’m not getting any younger, and I’m starting to feel lethargic these days. Michelle wanted to start a swim aerobics class for herself, and the Y was having a special membership deal, so we took the plunge. the cool thing is they’ve got childcare, so she can go whenever she needs to. but I beat her to it, waking up early-squirrely and going to an aerobics class this morning. they call it “bootcamp” class to try to sound cool, but really its a good old fashioned low-impact aerobics class, complete with a friendly, high-energy, headset-wearing instructor. and it must be cool, since some of my good friends have been attending.
I fully expected to get my butt kicked, since I havent done any real excercising for many years. and yes, it kicked my butt. I started feeling sick to my stomach not even halfway through, which I was also expecting. in highschool and in college, the first time I did something active for a while, I would get sick to my stomach. thankfully this time I didnt throw up like I did for my first basketball practice back in the day. but after cooling down a bit I went and rode a bike for a while, so that was good.
I think I’ll try it again on Thursday, and hopefully I’ll be able to make it a little longer. at least I’ve got my bearings at the Y, and if nothing else I can get the heart pumping with another bike ride. I dont have any real goals in mind except to get myself moving a couple days a week. we’ll see how it goes.
