yesterday I had a very good father’s day. my family came in town for the weekend, and it’s always good to have everyone here even if it was for a short time. and it was very cool that they could come for the ordination service. apparently Caleb was watching very closely as I was up front during the ordination part. at the end, they had us kneel down to be prayed over by the elders, and when I disappeared from view, Caleb said “where did daddy go?” if could answer him, I’d say something like: I went where I belong all the time, on my knees, with empty open hands, begging to receive God’s mercy to do the work He’s called me to do.
anyway, after church we all had a nice dinner together and afterward everyone had to go home. after so many days and weekends working long hours, it was very nice to have a restful afternoon. after the kids got up from their naps Caleb and I made pancakes together for dinner. after dinner Caleb was a bit hyper (probably from the pancake syrup) so we had a grand time having fun and being crazy together. I’ve never seen Caleb so loud and wild, and Alice got in on some of the excitement too. our times of just enjoying each other have been too sporadic lately, so it was especially nice just to have fun. we’re very much looking forward to family vacation in VT in less than 3 weeks!
so thanks to my whole family – both physical and church – for making it a very good day.
