Caleb continues to love all things about letters. for his 2nd birthday he got the “fridge phonics” set, which comes with all the capital letters and a little thing that says what the letter is and what sound it makes. so it didnt take long for him to learn all of the capital letters. he has favorites too (A, O, B, D, Q) and regularly carries them around the house. amazingly enough, when we lined them up earlier this month we found that not one was lost.
not too long ago I thought it would be cool if they had a lower-case letter expansion pack, so he could learn them too. and it turns out they actually do! so now we’ve got all the “baby” letters too. of couse there were a bunch that he knew right away (“baby o” was an immediate favorite). the others that werent so obvious (like g, e, q) he picked up pretty quickly. I havent sat down to ask him what’s what, but I’m pretty sure he knows all 52 now.
now he’s into spelling words too. not that he can spell anything himself yet, although he likes to try, but he asks us to spell his favorite things. giraffe, mama, daddy, Alice, grandma, grandpa, Chase, Julian, Casey and Joe are favorites. he’ll say “spell giraffe” and we’ll have him repeat each letter and say “what’s that spell?” and of course he responds “giraffe!!” we’re thinking of making cards that have words on them with the letters the size of his fridge letters so he can match them up. they actually do make something for the set where he can put in 3 letters and it says the word, so I’m sure we’ll invest in that eventually. he’s also into writing letters, but the only one he can do himself so far is O, but he at least tries/pretends to do the others.
all this to say: he’s obsessed with letters.
