for her one year checkup, alice was 30-3/4 inches and 21 lb, 9.5 oz…just like the rest of us as 90th percentile in height and 50th in weight.
she seems to be maturing fast these days. she’s into sorting blocks and such now, just like Caleb was and is. she also seems to be less outgoing, which was clearly shown in our attempt to get her 1 year picture taken. she took in her new surroundings and promptly shut down. no cries or tears, but absolutely no smiles either. again, much like her brother. so we need to figure something else out for her picture, hopefully before she’s much past 1 year.
she’s also been communicating more and more. besides generally going nuts when she sees something she wants (which is whatever Caleb or we have at dinner especially), she can sign “more”, sometimes even when unprompted. she can also sign “all done” when asked to, but her favorite way of telling us she’s done with eating is glopping it all in her hair, which is quite lovely. she says “mama” a lot and “hi” quite often, and is pretty good at imitating whatever we try to get her to say. super cute.
she got a nice baby doll for her birthday, but big brother has taken a liking to it. he loves feeding it and holding it and putting it to bed and such. we try to emphasize that it’s Alice’s doll (since he tends to commandeer all her new toys) and get him to take care of his stuffed animals instead, but he’s quite the nurturer. I’m not into “manly” stuff much myself, so we dont mind. but for the record, he loves his football and cant get enough of it on TV (he actually gets upset when he cant see the actual ball on the screen). anyway, dont tell him, but he’s getting a boy baby of his own to take care of for Christmas, so hopefully he’ll let Alice have hers (which she does enjoy).
soon we’ll have a houseful for the holidays and we’re getting very excited. hooray for family and fun and festivities!
