Selah is just over 2 weeks old now, and she’s doing quite well. her first Christmas has come and gone, and she seemed to enjoy herself. she seems like a pretty mellow baby, at least as we compare her to Caleb (very laid back) and Alice (a little “fiesty”). she doesn’t cry a whole lot yet, but if she’s uncomfortable she’ll grunt a bit. usually her grunts mean she needs a burp, which she’ll readily give. she’s a good eater, but like all of our kids, doesn’t gain weight all that fast. she had some poop issues early on, but that’s all working fine now. sometimes she’ll sleep 4 or 5 hours, especially if mama tops her off frequently in the evening. so while the lack of sleep is still draining, it’s not too bad so far.
as expected, Alice seems most affected by the new arrival, and her chosen battleground is the potty. she’ll fight and fight about going when she’s told, and doing it the right way, which can be rather draining. but we’ve been trying to spend good times with her and Caleb, and overall they’re doing rather well.
and of course they’re loving all the time with the grandparents and their new toys and stuff. we’re glad they received mostly creative-play type stuff, like costumes and arts-and-crafts stuff, and mama sewed them some cool stuff too. my favorite for Alice is her new pink guitar (actually ukulele) which she likes to jam on. they also got little bikes from the grandparents, which we’ll have fun with if the weather ever clears up.
I definitely got the least amount of “stuff” than I ever have, and I’m thankful for it (and thankful for people taking me up on the idea to get some ducks for the poor on my behalf). it’s nice to just get a few small things, as I feel like I can better keep my mind on what’s more important. I am easily distracted by stuff. now I hope I’m not getting too distracted by lack-of-stuff.
anyway, the gift of our Selah Grace is plenty for me. she’s a precious little girl, and we’re falling in love with her more and more. she still looks a lot like her brother (and daddy) but she’s changing fast. it’s nice to take a minute to stop and admire and wonder at new life, especially as we consider the birth of Jesus. speaking of: Happy birthday Jesus!
