This is a scam! I have been tricked by it too. I don't understand why these companies can get away with this! And the invoice that I received, saying I owed Parenting mag money after Motherhood said they were giving away 2 free issues, has no phone number on it!! This should be illegal!

Well, it's another year later, and the same thing happened to me. Those people are downright unethical. It really pisses me off. I filed complaints against both Motherhood Maternity and Parenting Magazine with the Better Business Bureau.

Funny how things don't change, TWO years later, they're still running the same scam. I recently purchased some items from Motherhood Maternity and I got a $20 charge on my card for Parenting Magazine(I thought it was a renewal, cause I already have a subscription) but I can get a subscription from Amazon for $15, so I called to cancel and the girl at Parenting mag asked why I was canceling and I said I don't need the subscription cause it's too expensive and she told me that I also have a renewal that I sent in January for $7, if I wanted to keep that. So I asked why was I charged $20, if I had an active subscription. That's when she said it was from Motherhood Maternity and I informed her that I did NOT agree to that, since I already have a subscription.

Anyway, the girl at the mag acted like OMG, I can't believe that! you better follow up with the store, etc etc. They're in the SCAM!! geez...

Yuck! I thought the worst Motherhood/Parenting did was promote formula to unsuspecting parents--billing credit cards for unasked for magazines, too? Ugh.

(Though, I'm so thankful that maternity fashions have come a LONG way in the last decade! Target and Old Navy seem to have decent maternity clothes at good prices, too.)

Emily once bought some "Turbie Towels" (http://www.cachebeauty.com/turbie.htm) from a 1-800 commercial she saw on TV. Somewhere in the midst of her order, she was enrolled in a "Rewards" program that offered her "money saving coupons", all for just an additional $19.95 a month. For whatever reason, she didn't bring it to MY attention until more than a year later.

Just like podge, I had no trouble getting them to take the charges off, getting back $280.00.

There are NUMEROUS scams like this. The general rule of thumb you should use is the old adage, "there is no such thing as a free lunch."

And, by the way, nice save on the DJ comment.

Sorry to post on topic, but I experienced the same thing at Media Play. I used my credit card and was offered 8 free issues of 2 magazines. Naturally, once they 8 weeks was up, they kept sending the mags. Then the charge showed up on my credit card.

It was no problem getting it taken off. In fact, the automated phone system at the publisher had that specific option available.
